Last weekend VBP were invited to a grass-track race meet in Apeguso, a little roadside town in Ghana’s Eastern Region, that has previously hosted our One Day Workshops and Learn2Ride programs.
Over 60 kids competed in heats of 4 in a first-passed-the-post lap around the local school’s playing field.
VBP’s Director, Dave Peckham, was there to hand out prizes of pumps and reflectors, and our Learn2Ride Volunteer Coordinator, Kathryn Wykes, had organized a crowd of cheerleaders on the sidelines.
Vida Juilet, the event’s organizer, told us that she’d borrowed all the bicycles from the local community, and that many had come from VBP workshops held here last October.
This week we’re back in Apeguso for another program of One Day Workshops, and who knows, maybe there will be another race meet soon after…
